Education

Do you want to understand, explain and improve the world around us? Then maybe a chemistry education is right for you!

Chemistry is how everything around us works and interacts at a molecular level, it is how your muscles relax, how to turn oil into plastic and how to produce pain killers. Chemists are needed to understand and produce medicine for currently incurable diseases like cancer and Alzheimers, to find alternatives to oil and other fossil fuels and much more. A bachelor's degree in chemistry provides a foundation covering an in-depth theoretical understanding for chemical principles and thorough practical experience. You learn to communicate with other chemists, to work in a group and to carry out individual research projects. All this is then further expanded in our master's degrees, where you have the opportunity to focus more exclusively on one area of chemistry that interests you. We offer a wide range of courses both at basic and advanced level that allows you to tailor your education to your own interests.

There are many reasons to study chemistry at the Department of Chemistry in Lund. Our laboratories and other facilities hold a very high standard and our teachers are leading in their areas of chemistry, both in Sweden and internationally.

Read more about our master's programmes, bachelor's programmes and courses on the education pages.

With a degree in chemistry an exciting and varied job market is available to you and previous students now work within production, quality control and research labs in many different companies in the region, in Sweden and abroad, such as Höganäs AB, Pfizer and AkzoNobel. Chemists are in demand in positions working with the envrionment, as well as within the pharmaceutical and food industries. In Sweden the demand for chemistry teachers is also very high.

More information about what you can work with after your education can be found on the Carreer pages.
